Whenever we hear the words ‘Sunday school,’ we often associate it with children gathered in small groups, singing praise songs and interacting with one another. However, adult Sunday school classes are a thing too, and they’re more important than ever. Attending these classes is a great way to enhance true Christian fellowship and deepen our personal relationship with God.
In recent times, many churches have turned their focus on small groups over adult Sunday school. But these classes have so much to offer. Let’s walk you through four reasons to start attending adult Sunday school classes today.
As adults, we grow spiritually through a personal application of God’s word. The more we read the bible and understand its lessons, the deeper and more profound our spiritual growth will become. We become refreshed in our aspirations to manifest the teachings of Jesus Christ in our everyday life.
For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
Hebrews 4:12
During the Sunday service sermon, no one will raise his or her hand to ask the pastor a question or share their insight with the rest of the congregation. Of course, you can always walk up to the pastor after the service and ask your question, but not during.
That’s what an adult Sunday school class is for. In fact, asking questions and sharing lessons during classes are actively encouraged. There’s also room for robust discussions so students get to learn from the teacher, as well as one another.

Adult Sunday school classes can be organized to care for people and encourage them, more so now that the effects of the COVID pandemic continue to ravage the world. If you’ve always wanted to be a more caring person and uplift others, like Jesus asks us to do, the people you meet in these classes are a great starting point.
The Sunday school teacher can take the lead in this care and encouragement initiative by being aware of what members need, and then helping to meet them. They can also encourage class members to look out for one another and even extend the outreach to their local communities.

Attending adult Sunday school classes is a great way to focus your commitment on Jesus Christ and growing as a Christian. This is incredibly important. Many people tend to hang on every word from their pastors when in fact it’s the word of God that should be guiding them.
These Sunday school fellowships help us realize that we can learn about God from other sources outside of the pastor. We can learn from our teachers and each other, which in turn, can help keep us grounded on what’s important.
